Ouch!! For all the talk about the government's role in health care, the most encouraging thing I see happening is business doing what they have to do...focusing on ways in which they can get their people working on healthy lifestyles to eliminate the root cost problem. Yes, the uninsured and unchecked lawyers are an issue, but mostly it's people not taking responsibility for their health thinking that modern medicine will take care of all issues without a steep cost.

Simply look them in the eye--lower your voice and say "xxxx, I really appreciate your hard work. It is making a real impact because xxxxxxxxxxx." Lowering the your voice has emphasis because it draws them in to you which makes it a more personal statement.

Tell people the good things you are hearing about them! I often hear people's names brought up in meetings with positive feeback associated with them. You have to pass this information along because the person who usually says it, never gives the feedback to the individual directly.

I had the same experience. My boss, a great human being, worked in Mass. I went on my first visit (I had known him for years but just started reporting to him). He introduced me to everyone as his associate. I would have taken a bullet for the guy. He was a prince - my favorite boss ever. THANKS for sharing friend.

I remember working for a NY video production company back in the 80's when I was first introduced as someone's associate. It gave me a great sense of equality in the situation even though I realized she was my superior/my mentor. It truly felt like complimentary at the time. It put all parties on a level playing field.
